First essay on two works from VWO4

This is a four-part assignment.   The first two parts are:

Part 1: Write an essay on the question indicated, using the thesis statement and topic sentences provided.  Submit your essay as a "comment" on the posting. 

You will get 3 points if you post your essay before 23:59 Tuesday May 14th, 2 points if you post your essay before 23:59 Monday May 20th, plus another 1 or 2 points if the essay shows originality and critical thought.  After Monday May 20th, you will get 1 point for submitting the essay and 1 point if it is very good.  After Wednesday, May 22nd, you will not get any points for submitting your essay.

Part 2: Once you have submitted your essay, you may comment on the other essays.  Comments should be on the following:

• correct spelling, grammar, register and usage errors
• re-write inelegant sentences
• disagree with examples given

You can earn, per essay you have commented on, 1 point if you have made any useful comments, and 2 or 3 points if your comments are very good.  Only comments made after you have submitted your essay will count.   Comments may be made until Sunday May 26th 23:59. You may make as many comments as you wish, until the deadline.

Parts 3 and 4 will be made available on May 21st.  The more points you earn, the higher your grade.
